Will Reese Coaches VIDEO Sketch

Postby willreese » Thu Feb 27, 2014 11:35 pm

Hello! I will coach your sketch team if you want to make funny videos. I can coach your live stuff too, but I'd rather help you with video.

I'm a director / producer / writer / editor / DP, with knowledge of production from inception to completion. I'm on a UCB Beta team (we produce video sketch). I've worked for UCB Comedy, Funny or Die, College Humor, Nerdist, AwesomenessTV (featured on Nickelodeon), Seventeen Magazine, ABC TV, and tons of other companies you've heard of. Here are some samples...

Director / Editor for UCB Comedy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTR690rRw_c
Director for Seventeen Magazine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGavZcMLbCY
Director / Writer / Producer / Editor for Loud Village: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKSVMfWKyLo
Director of Photography for The Midnight Show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQloj0zZTFU
Director of Photography for Seventeen Magazine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4gp_HQWRw0
Editor for Funny or Die: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c82d20 ... rones-ep-1

You can hire me to do one of two things (please read thoroughly!) --

1. Just Coach Your Team:

- For $60 / 2 hours I'll serve as an Executive Producer to your sketch team, helping you find your unique comedic voice, and your niche online.
- I'll help you develop sketches, web series, short film, pilots, features, whatever you want!
- Some ideas work on stage but NOT online. I'll help you figure out how to translate your funny ideas to video.
- You need your own equipment (camera, audio, computer with editing software, etc)
- I LOVE COMEDY and making stuff, so I want this to be fun for you and for me! But at the same time, I'll teach you to work with a critical eye so you make good stuff that makes strangers on the internet laugh!
- This rate would also apply if you want me to show up on one of your shoots to oversee things and give you basic pointers / suggestions on how to shoot.

2. I'll Teach You Video Production:

- Want to make sketch but you've never held a camera before? I'll teach you how! I'll also teach you how to turn the camera on, how to press the record button, and how to press many other buttons! Basically, I'll teach you how to SHOOT and EDIT sketches, which includes how to frame shots, how to record clean audio, how to import your audio and video into an editing program, how to edit, how to use filters and make your video look nicer, how to export, and how to upload to YouTube.
- Because this is technically demanding, and much more hands on, it's not cheap. I charge $150 / 2 hours, but you would only need a few of these sessions before your entire team is proficient, then you can just pay me for regular coaching!
- I recommend owning your own equipment / software, but I can bring my gear to train you on, so you don't have to make that initial investment before you learn. This doesn't necessarily mean I can lend / rent my gear to you outside of coaching sessions. I make a living doing video production, so I need it!
- If your team has trouble affording it, find another team to split the cost. I'll teach up to 10 people at a time for this rate.

About My Coaching Style

- You are an indie sketch team, but you want to be professionals who get paid to be funny. So we will act professional. This means developing / rewriting material until it's solid; producing sketches that LOOK professional, not like they were shot on a webcam in a dark laundry room; imposing realistic deadlines; creating a strategy for how your sketch team will take over the internet and get billions and billions of views.
- As I said before, ultimately, I want this to be fun. If it's not fun, then it's not worth doing. That begin said, hard work is "fun" to me, because there's nothing better than a sense of creating something that's great. If you want to work hard, develop as comedians, and make really awesome videos, then I'm the coach for you!
- I'm not the kind of coach who just pitches jokes on your idea. I want to get to the heart of your sketch, what you originally liked about that idea, and how to make that idea come across as strong as possible.

Contact Info and Availability:

I won't be checking this board regularly, so email me! -- wmreese@gmail.com -- When emailing me, make the subject line "Video Sketch Coaching," and please include a little info on your team's experience, how many people are on your team, and what sketch / improv classes you have taken in the past.

Since I make my living doing freelance video production, my availability is all over the place. Contact me and we can figure out a time to meet.

Thanks!
