New Lloyd Teams/Harold Team Changes: Announced by Wednesday, February 26th 2020

You must be available for the audition days and times. We will only add additional time if all slots fill up and there are still eligible individuals interested.

All of these dates are subject to change. In the event that happens, we will let you know as soon as possible.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS

If you are interested in auditioning to be on a Lloyd Team you must agree to and understand the following Team Expectations and Policies:

-Lloyd Teams perform the improv form known as the Harold. Team members must show an understanding of the Harold and a dedication to using the Harold structure as a tool in creating improvised comedy.

-Lloyd Teams are expected to rehearse once a week with a consistent coach approved by the Artistic Director.

-Lloyd Teams must be a priority for team members. This is demonstrated by attending rehearsals and performances. Team members with a pattern of poor attendance or lateness may be removed.

-Lloyd Team members are expected to compensate the coach a reasonable coaching fee. This fee is set by an agreement between the coach and the team. Free rehearsal space is available at the Training Center if available.

-As a team member, you are expected to perform at a high level and demonstrate commitment to improving, but you are NOT expected to be perfect. Team members must show they are open to notes from their coach and the Artistic Director and be willing to work at implementing those notes.

-Most Lloyd Teams have a lifetime of roughly one year. As with any other house team, the Artistic Director may make changes before that year is up. Promotions to Harold Night may be made, but is in no way guaranteed. The best course of action is to focus on Lloyd Night and not be distracted by what may be next.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

You must meet one of the following prerequisites in order to audition:

A) You are currently a member of the UCB Academy.

OR

B) You were on a UCBT house improv team (Harold/Lloyd) between February 2017 - February 2019 and can prove that you have stayed active as an improviser (indie teams, classes, practice groups).

FORMER HOUSE TEAM MEMBERS
If you were on a former house improv team (Harold/Lloyd): fill out this Google Form by Thursday, January 2nd at Noon: https://forms.gle/A2tden5wvDf4dpBWA

ELIGIBILITY EXCEPTIONS
If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, you may apply for an exception. We cannot guarantee how many people will be granted exceptions, as they will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to apply for an exception, fill out this Google Form by Thursday, January 2nd at Noon: https://forms.gle/FBMTwhH8RzWxkUC46 If you get an exception you will be notified by January 27th. There will be a separate, later window to sign up for those granted an exception.

First Round Audition Specifics:

We will see groups of 8 people every 20 minutes. You will improvise 2 scenes in this audition. You do not/should not prepare anything in advance. This is an entirely improvised audition.

We will see groups of 8 people at a time. Auditions will last about 20 minutes and follow this format:
-A suggestion.
-A short, true personal monologue off a suggestion.
-Monologists are encouraged to tell stories from their adult life, rather than childhood anecdotes. The monologue will be cut off at 60 seconds.
-Four two person FIRST BEATS. No support work (walk-ons, for example) is allowed in the first beats.
-Four SECOND BEATS. Second beats should be performed by the improvisers who were in the first beat (both improvisers from the first beat should step out for the second beat and either improviser can speak first).
-No group games, but you may offer on-game group support in second beats. Do not tag the primary two performers out, and make sure group support doesn’t overwhelm the scene.
-We will edit all scenes.
-Because these sets are inspired by short monologues, some scenes will start with full premises and some will start with half ideas. Both are fine. Either can lead to strong, fun games.

Bring a headshot/resume (stapled/glued) with you. If you do not have a headshot, a recent photograph will suffice. Please make sure the photo looks like you. Resume should be stapled to the back of your headshot so that it is easy to flip the headshot and read your resume.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled audition. A classroom will be provided for your group to warm up in during that window. If you are late or miss your scheduled audition slot, you will not be rescheduled.

Callback information will be given to those that get a callback.

Sign-ups will be open on Tuesday, January 7th, 3pm EST and close Tuesday, January 21st, 5PM EST. Only those that meet the eligibility requirements will be allowed to sign up during this window.

-If you are late to, or miss your appointment, we may not be able to reschedule you.
-If you need to cancel after the deadline (5:00pm - January 21st) has passed, email bridget@ucbcomedy.com

If you run into any technical issues, please email bridget@ucbcomedy.com.

Nope! As long as you’re eligible or excepted, you can audition for Lloyd Night.

The 1st Lloyd Night of the new season will most likely be Sunday, March 1st, with rehearsals beginning that same week.
