Characters Welcome - Official UCBT Character Team

Postby SPO » Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:37 pm

I am very happy to announce that Characters Welcome, UCB's monthly character showcase, will be an official UCBT Program. Much like Harold/Lloyd/Maude - Characters Welcome will require weekly rehearsals and there will be a monthly show at UCBT East Village.

Details:
Directors: Michael Hartney & Justin Tyler
Rehearsals: Thursdays 7:30-9:30pm (this is set)
Show: 3rd Monday, 8pm
Team Size: 12 Members
Term length: 6 Months

Character team members will develop 4-minute character pieces to be showcased in the monthly show. Performing at the show is not guaranteed. 8 of the 12 performers will put up a character each show. Directors Michael Hartney and Justin Tyler will also host and perform a character in each show.

Rehearsal is mandatory, and you must arrive on time, and stay the duration.
Show attendance is Mandatory and you must stay the duration of the show.
All team members are responsible for splitting the cost of Directors Fee and Room Rental Fee. (Monthly Dues)

Who can Apply?
Pre-req: Completion* of Improv 401 or higher since December 2013 and AND Completion* of a core Sketch Class in the last 2 years OR Member (Writer or Performer) of a UCBT House Improv or Maude Team in the past 2 years OR a regular attendee of the Characters Welcome Workshops.
*Classes must be completed by Dec. 14th, 2014

(As our Character Program at the Training Center Grows, it will likely be a pre-requisite, but for the initial launch it is not).

Auditions will be held the weekend of January 10th & 11th, 2015.
Auditions will be 3 minutes long (max) and must consist of a minimum of 3 characters, no celebrity impressions.

If you meet the pre-req, and you are interested in auditioning for Characters Welcome, you must submit through this google form.

Deadline to submit is Sunday, December 14th, 11:59pm EST.

Once we see the amount of interest we have, we will contact everyone about auditions slots.

If you have questions, please post them below and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hi Spo! What if I took Character 101? Do I still have to take a core sketch class? Thanks! - Glo

Glorilis, to answer more specifically - Character 101 does not count as a pre-req for this program.

We will reassess pre-reqs in the future once after its initial term.

I'm currently in Sketch 101 and my class finishes on Jan. 6th - before the auditions. Do I qualify? Thanks!

You must complete the class by December 14th, 2014 (last day to submit interest)

I've updated the original post to reflect this.

Does a core sketch class at another theatre count (Magnet, PIT, etc...)?

I've been trying to get into UCB sketch program for over a year however this endeavor has proven more difficult then getting accepted to the NASA space program.

Chewy - You have to have taken a core Sketch Class at the UCBT Training Center.

I added this to the original post, but wanted to let people know that

As our Character Program at the Training Center Grows, it will likely be a pre-requisite, but for the initial launch it is not.
