Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Three on Three Improv Tournament!
The 3x3 tourney is open to any and all participants. Simply send an email to Threeonthree@gmail.com with the following information:
-Player 1 (name, email address)
-Player 2 (name, email address)
-Player 3 (name, email address)
- Is there a Quarterfinal you group can’t perform at? Let me know.
All registration emails must be received by 12pm on Friday, Oct 28th.
28 teams will perform (along with 4 wildcard teams).
On Friday afternoon, a random drawing will take place. Every team will be informed on whether they got in or not. Participants may register with ONE TEAM ONLY, so choose your lineups carefully. Your team must be able to perform on either Wednesday November 2nd, 9th, or 16th at 11:15pm or Friday November 25th at 10:30pm, AS WELL AS Saturday, November 28th. All shows will be at UCB East.
PLEASE NOTE: IF ALL THREE TEAM MEMBERS CANNOT PERFORM ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26th, DO NOT ENTER THE 3 ON 3.
There is entry fee of $15 per team due when you arrive at the theatre for your qualifying slot.
There will be four qualifying rounds (Wednesday November 2nd, 9th and 16th at 11:15pm and Friday November 25th at 10:30pm). Each qualifying round will feature eight teams – seven selected groups, and one wildcard team that will be made up of audience members drawn out of a hat (or similar receptacle) that night. Each team will have seven minutes of stage time. The audience will vote for their favorite teams, and the top three teams from each show will return on Saturday, November 26th for the Semi-finals and Finals. Results will be read in the bar after the show!
The Semi-finals will take place on Saturday, November 26th at 8pm and 9:30pm. Each of the 6 teams in each show will have 10 minutes of stage time to impress our panel of judges, who will be scoring the teams on a scale of 1-5 in three areas: Technical Merit, Artistry, and Comicality. The scores are then averaged to produce the team’s composite score. The two teams from each show with the highest scores will compete in the Finals. There will be no wildcard teams for these shows, but there will be an Audience Judge for each show.
The Finals will be at 11pm on Saturday, November 26th. Each of the 4 teams will be given 15 minutes, and scored the same way as the Semi-finals.
The prize break down for the finalists is:
1st place - $220
2nd place - $130
3rd place - $55
4th place -$15
Prize amounts are not easily divisible by three to ensure healthy competition even after the shows have finished, with the exception of 4th place because you gotta be nice sometimes.
-Teams attempting to register for the tournament AFTER 12pm on Friday, October 28th will not be considered.
-The wildcard drawing is open to any audience member who wishes to throw their name into the hat (or similar receptacle), minus those individuals who are already scheduled to perform with a 3x3 team. Wildcard teams will be waived of the $15 entry fee.
-Musical groups are always welcome. The pianist, guitarist, beat-boxer, etc is considered a member of the group, however.
-The four finalist teams from the 2015 tourney will be offered automatic invites to this year’s qualifying rounds.
-If you email firstname.lastname@example.org before the night of your show and say the team can’t make it, we will contact another team and fill your spot. If at time of show you are not present, we will add another wildcard team.
-If a team member has to drop out before your quarterfinal slot, you can replace him or her with no penalty.
-A team that advances to the semi-finals must include all three members that performed in the quarterfinals. You cannot replace a team member after the quarterfinals. This is negotiable if a team member is sick/injured. This is not negotiable if a team member is out of town and knew in advance.
- The tournament is “long-form” improv. You can only get one suggestion from the audience. No GAMEPROV or short-form.
-All 3 team members must be human.
