2014 Harold Team Auditions - Los Angeles

Postby MikeStill » Thu Sep 11, 2014 3:24 am

I’m excited to announce Fall 2014 auditions for UCBT-LA’s Harold Teams!

First round auditions will be held Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11 and callbacks will be held Sunday, October 12. These are the only audition dates.

Our house teams are the heart of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. We take the development of our teams seriously, and pride ourselves in fostering a nurturing creative environment that challenges our performers to create the funniest shit the human race has ever seen.

IN SIGNING UP FOR A HAROLD TEAM AUDITION YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING HAROLD TEAM EXPECTATIONS:

Harold Teams perform the improv form known as the Harold. Harold Team members must show an understanding of the Harold and a dedication to using the Harold structure as a tool in creating improvised comedy.

Harold Teams are formed at the discretion of the UCBT-LA Artistic Director in consultation with the Harold Committee, a collection of coaches, teachers and performers who love improv.

You are expected to treat your team members like “geniuses, poets and artists.” There is a direct correlation between team support and team success.

Harold Teams must rehearse at least once a week.

Harold Teams must be a priority for team members. This is demonstrated by attending rehearsals and performances. Team members with a pattern of poor attendance or lateness will be removed.

Harold Teams will be assigned a coach by the UCBT-LA Artistic Director. Coaches will be periodically rotated to expose team members to a variety of viewpoints. Team input will be considered in coach assignment.

Harold Team members must compensate the coach a reasonable coaching fee. This fee is set by a discussion between the coach and the team.

Harold Team members are expected to boldly bring his or her unique voice and sense of humor to Harold Night.

As a Harold Team member, you are expected to perform at a high level and demonstrate commitment to improving, but you are NOT expected to be perfect. Mistakes often drive improvisation, so don’t be afraid to make one. Don’t waste your time on Harold Night being afraid, it’s very hard to be funny if you aren’t having fun. UCBT-LA wants you to succeed!

Notes are not criticism. As such, Harold Team members must show they are open to notes from their coach and the Artistic Director and willing to work at implementing those notes.

UCBT encourages the relationships formed on Harold Teams to lead to comedy collaborations beyond Harold Night.

Harold Team members are expected to continuously develop their comedic voice through opportunities at UCBT, including, but not limited to, sketch shows, bit shows, specialty improv shows, Spanks and stand-up. Harold Night is not your last stop at UCBT-LA, Harold Team members are encouraged to find new ways to express their unique comedic voice.

No team last forever--and when teams go away, it’s not personal. Keep creating.

If you agree with these expectations, read on!

-Mike Still, Artistic Director, UCBT-LA

Will there be any email confirmation after signing up, or is the Google Forms "Thanks!" page proof enough it made it?
