question re tax exemption for classes

Hi, I'm doing my taxes and notice that, on my receipts for classes, under "Tax Exempt" it says "Yes" for all of 2014, however for 2015 it says "Yes" only for the first class I took this year (in April), then on the next receipt in May of this year it says "No" (and it also says "No" on the receipt for the class I'm currently taking).

Are UCB classes no longer tax-deductible?

But to try to follow up on this, which receipt says "tax exempt"? Is it an email receipt from the online sale?

Yes, it's the email receipt from the online sale.

I just forwarded to you the last receipt I got where it says "Tax Exempt: Yes" (dated 3-26-15, all receipts prior to this date say "yes") and the first receipt I got where it says "Tax Exempt: No" (dated 5-8-15, all receipts subsequent to this date say "no") -

I asked and it sounds like that tax exempt status has no effect on whether or not you can claim it as a deductible. So treat it the same!

More info:

The Tax Exemption is a reference to it being exempt from local sales tax.
I am also told "these courses are NOT donations to a 501(c)3." - not sure what that means but I suppose that's good information for those that understand how to pay their taxes.

I'm no tax expert and could be wrong:

I got money back for UCB 101 last year, and getting money back for UCB 201 this year. When I file on Turbotax, I did some research that led me to believe that the class qualified as ''At Least Half-Time''. Last year I had to use the school's EIN, this year TurboTax didn't ask me for EIN, but TurboTax tells me I did it right.

so, finally getting around to my 2015 taxes (before the 10/15/16 extension deadline), and was happy to come on here and see my question answered - thanks, Kevin et al!

fyi, " 501(c)3" mean non-profit, which most charitable organizations are (and for theatre producers looking for a donation umbrella organization to join, check out Fractured Atlas).

I've successfully written off my UCB tuition in the past via "Education Credits" form 8863, which is a different animal.
