Lloyd Team Auditions 2019: How to Sign-Up!

Please read the entirety of this post; there is a lot of information! If you have a question, post it below and the Artistic Director or Artistic Assistant will answer it as soon as possible. Only answers from the AD (Michael Hartney) and Artistic Assistant (Bridget Holmes) are official answers.

All auditions will take place at the UCB Training Center (520 8th Ave, 9th Floor).

First Round Auditions:
Thursday-Sunday, February 7th, 8th, 9th, & 10th
Audition slots/times will go online January 7th at 3pm; afternoon and evening slots will be available each day.

First Callback:
Friday, February 15th
Times TBD

Second Callback:
Thursday, February 21st
Times TBD

New Lloyd Teams/Harold Team Changes: Announced by Thursday, February 28th 2018

You must be available for the audition days and times. We will only add additional time if all slots fill up and there are still eligible individuals interested.

All of these dates are subject to change. In the event that happens, we will let you know as soon as possible.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS

If you are interested in auditioning to be on a Lloyd Team you must agree to and understand the following Team Expectations and Policies:

Harold and Lloyd Teams perform the improv form known as the Harold. Team members must show an understanding of the Harold and a dedication to using the Harold structure as a tool in creating improvised comedy.

Harold and Lloyd Teams are expected to rehearse at least once a week with a consistent coach approved by the Artistic Director.

Harold and Lloyd Teams must be a priority for team members. This is demonstrated by attending rehearsals and performances. Team members with a pattern of poor attendance or lateness may be removed.

Harold and Lloyd Team members are expected to compensate the coach a reasonable coaching fee. This fee is set by a discussion between the coach and the team. Free rehearsal space is available at the Training Center if available.

As a team member, you are expected to perform at a high level and demonstrate commitment to improving, but you are NOT expected to be perfect. Team members must show they are open to notes from their coach and the Artistic Director and be willing to work at implementing those notes.

Most Lloyd Teams have a lifetime of roughly one year. As with any other house team, the Artistic Director may make changes before that year is up. Promotions to Harold Night may be made, but is in no way guaranteed. The best course of action is to focus on Lloyd Night and not be distracted by what may be next.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

You must also meet at least ONE of the following prerequisites:

You are currently a member of the UCB Academy.

OR

You were approved for Advanced Study Improv by February 1st, 2018 AND have either completed a UCB Theatre multi-week (2 or more) Improv Class in the last year (January 1st, 2018 and January 7th, 2019), or are in a multi-week class during the sign-up window (January 7th, 2019 - January, 21st 2019).

OR

You were on a UCBT house improv team (Harold/Lloyd) between January 2016 - March 2018 and can prove that you have stayed active as an improviser (indie teams, classes, practice groups).

ELIGIBILITY EXCEPTIONS
Exceptions will be granted to the above eligibility on a very limited basis. No one should expect to get an exception. If you would like to apply for an exception: fill out this GOOGLE FORM (https://goo.gl/forms/gUcV5yATmvft4sck1) by Thursday, January 3rd at Noon. If you get an exception you will be notified by January 7th before sign-ups begin.

FORMER HOUSE TEAM MEMBERS

If you were on a former house improv team (Harold/Lloyd): fill out this GOOGLE FORM (https://goo.gl/forms/PfGUkCDMmwCgqn9w2) by Thursday, January 3rd at Noon.

AUDITION SPECIFICS

First Round:

We will see groups of 8 people every 20 minutes. You will improvise 2 scenes in this audition. You do not/should not prepare anything in advance. This is an entirely improvised audition.

Bring a headshot/resume (stapled/glued) with you. If you do not have a headshot, a recent photograph will suffice. Please make sure the photo looks like you. Resume should be stapled to the back of your headshot so that it is easy to flip the headshot and read your resume.

Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled audition. A classroom will be provided for your group to warm up in during that window. If you are late or miss your scheduled audition slot, you will not be rescheduled.

Callback information will be given to those that get a callback.

HOW TO SIGN UP

Sign-ups will be open on January 7th, 3pm EST and close January 21st, 5PM EST. Only those that meet the eligibility requirements will be allowed to sign up. We have moved into the future and the days of sign-up sheets on a bunch of folding tables are over.

-After the deadline, all changes will be closed and only your audition time will be visible to you in the “My Auditions” tab
-We cannot accommodate any swaps or changes after the deadline has passed.
-If you need to cancel after the deadline has passed, email artisticassistantny@ucbcomedy.com. All cancellations must be 24 hours before your scheduled audition.

Not necessarily! If you completed it AND was approved for Advanced Study before the creation of the Academy last year, you're eligible. If you completed those after that, or weren't approved for Advanced Study, and aren't in the Academy, you're not eligible.

Feel free to fill out the exception form listed in the original post if you'd still like to be considered but don't meet the requirements.

How do you find the date you were approved for Advanced Study?

You'd have an approval email with a timestamp. If you don't have that, you probably didn't have to apply to be in Advanced Study, in which case you'd have to be in the Academy to be eligible.

Okay, I so I never applied for an advanced study class and I finished 401 on Aug 6, so does that mean I'm not eligible?

Due to a large response received during the last couple weeks we are re-opening our Lloyd Audition Exception Request Form. If you are not eligible based on the current guidelines, please fill out this form (https://goo.gl/forms/ZbKsEEqZjdFs81Cm1) by next Monday, January 28th at 5:00pm to be considered for an exception. You will be notified by Friday, February 1st if you have been approved.

We apologize for the confusion and look forward to seeing as many students as we can. Please post below or email artisticassistantny@ucbcomedy.com with any questions.
